U.S. News just released their annual ranking of the top 25 places to live in America, based on quality of life.

Reading the results got me thinking about how important location is in choosing a home, and how we define “quality of life” individually. Because I have a background as a homes magazine editor, I tend to equate quality of life at home with an intentionally designed, comfortable and minimal space. Because we have a five-year-old, I also prioritize access to great schools.

This week, I had the great pleasure of spending some time with a Purplebricks client in California who recently sold her home in order to move back to her favorite community of Belmont Shore in the city of Long Beach. She told me that what she loved most about Belmont Shore was the local business owners she’d known for years, the dog-friendliness of the community culture (she has a small pup) and the general outgoing nature and laid back vibe of the people.
